Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU) is a federally chartered credit union serving all facets of local government in North Carolina’s 100 counties and 546 towns, cities and villages. LGFCU commissioned a large-scale custom sculpture to represent the many unique qualities that North Carolina represents to its residents. The sculpture was a gift to the community to serve as a reminder of LFGCU’s pledge to support the changing needs of each of its members statewide. Kelly MarCom was engaged to create a special event for the unveiling of this dramatic sculpture, which wraps around two walls of the LFGCU’s headquarters in downtown Raleigh and is visible from the street through a glass exterior wall.
The name of the sculpture is “Journey,” and the objectives of the unveiling event were to leverage the investment by providing a touch-point for members, creating a sense of pride in being a member of the credit union, entice membership of those who were not, and create awareness of the organization with local dignitaries and local media. “Join Us on Jones Street” became the embracing tagline of the event. Kelly MarCom designed all elements promoting the special evening: Save the Date e-blasts, printed invitations, statement stuffers, online newsletters, posters in branches, tent cards at teller windows, unique gifts for attendees, food and beverage and entertainment. We arranged for high-profile speakers at the event and launched aggressive media relations including a CD press kit including photographs of the artists and the sculpture. The goal of the event promotion was to promise the unveiling of the incredible sculpture in a creative way.
At the event, we programmed a count down clock on the plasma TV in the lobby so the guests had a sense of real anticipation. City firemen generated further excitement (with all the appropriate city permits!) when, the fire truck came around the corner with sirens blaring. The firemen jumped from the truck, brought the ladders into the building and unveiled the sculpture. (As is necessary with any event plan, we did have a Plan B in place in case the stars of the show had been called to duty!)
