Sensus, a global utilities management company, approached Kelly MarCom as it prepared to introduce the new iPERL Water Management System to the North American water utility marketplace. The product needed a brand look that would fit within the larger Sensus brand context, yet stand out distinctly from other competitive products.
Further, the iPERL sales team needed a product “launch kit” to display the new meter, as well as supporting materials to help sell the iPERL and the new technology that set it apart from competitive meters. With this in mind we set out to create a dynamic display and compelling presentation of the iPERL technology.
The iPERL itself is a small, uniquely shaped and lead-free (a first in this market) residential water meter that was built around new technologies developed by Sensus. Kelly MarCom chose to highlight the iPERL’s ingenuity by developing a custom launch kit to emphasize the product differentiators and further set it apart. The kit was constructed using recycled materials and the interior held a custom foam insert to display the meter, a customized USB port, sales brochure, letter from the product manager, and a specifications sheet.
Using elements of the corporate Sensus logo we visually linked the iPERL sub-brand to the parent Sensus brand. The kit included key sales points for the sales team to reference in their presentations. The final kit enabled Sensus to both easily transport and professionally display iPERL product and sales materials. Once the kit was completed, Kelly MarCom developed advertising, e-blasts and trade show materials to support and promote iPERL.
The Sensus distributors and sales teams announced the launch kit a value-adding sales tool that helped them tell the iPERL story. It was the first time they had a complete kit of sales materials, including a display case, product sample and supporting materials.
In the first six months of the product launch, Sensus shipped 30,000 iPERL units and distributed 20,000 product brochures to clients and potential customers. One year later, 230,000 iPERLs has been sold.
