The V Foundation selected Kelly MarCom to lead, organize, promote and design the second annual “Dessert First for Women’s Cancer Research.” The Foundation was faced with a limited budget, but still needed to find a way to drive attendance and secure donations and sponsorships.
With The V Foundation’s limited budget, Kelly MarCom capitalized on the opportunity to execute pre-event promotions through Facebook and electronic direct marketing. These economically efficient efforts engaged guests as early as nine months before they arrived at the event with a series of communications and event developments. The touch points engaged guests and furthered the event’s cause by announcing Anne Thompson, NBC News Correspondent and cancer survivor, as the celebrity speaker. A network of hope and excitement was born through these efforts to drive support for women’s cancer research.
The ultimate goal of the social media effort was to generate awareness of the Dessert First event and to lend credibility to the cause. As a result of Kelly MarCom’s efforts, the event brought attendance exceeding 430 guests and record net proceeds of more than $100,000. The money was committed to UNC’s Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center for its breakthrough work on endometrial cancer.
