Objective

The V Foundation hosts an annual charity event for which Kelly MarCom was selected to lead, organize, promote and design all the event components. For the second annual “Dessert First for Women’s Cancer Research” event, Kelly MarCom was tasked with creating awareness, enlisting sponsors, securing donated auction items and increasing guest attendance from the previous year.

Approach

Kelly MarCom’s President and CEO chaired the advisory board of directors and the company led promotions, social marketing, graphic design, and theme development in the planning and execution of this event. We made sure that every detail from printed invitations and sponsorship materials to t-shirts and event signage, inspired the charitable generosity of Dessert First guests.

The pre-event promotion included aggressive social media outreach through Facebook and electronic direct marketing, engaging guests long before they arrived at the event through a series of communications nine months before the event took place.

Kelly MarCom solicited auction item donations from local and national businesses, and handled all fundraising logistics. To secure sponsors, Kelly MarCom designed and distributed a compelling sponsorship packet outlining the various levels of contribution and centering on the emotional appeal of the charity cause.

A network of hope and excitement was born through these efforts in support of women’s cancer research.

Result

NBC News Correspondent and cancer survivor, Ann Thompson, was the celebrity speaker, and the silent auction featured treasured items from Oprah’s “O List.” As a result of these and other unique event features, attendance exceeded 430 guests and record net proceeds of more than $100,000. The money was committed to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and its breakthrough work in endometrial cancer.
